I’m really sad to discover that ABC Family decided not to renew Huge for next year. The show was a highlight for my Monday nights, both because the topic was fresh and because the message of size acceptance was so positive.
Huge creators, Winnie Holzman (My So-Called Life) and her daughter, Savannah Dooley, issued a statement about the series’ cancellation through their publicist Andrew Freedman.
“First and foremost we want to thank everyone who embraced Huge and supported it. While it’s disappointing not to be able to go forward with the characters we love so much and had so many plans for, we’re deeply grateful to have had this opportunity. Our goal was and is to create television of depth and complexity that inspires people to think and feel. We believe we accomplished that with Huge, and we can’t wait to do it again.”
If you want to write a letter to ABC, I encourage you to. I’ve already sent them a letter telling them how I feel. There aren’t enough shows on television that deal with plus size women and plus size life, and this one did that with grace and humor and honesty. You can also join Shannon of Fierce Fatties “Save Huge” group on Facebook, and sign Jezebel’s petition.
My summer just got a little less exciting.
