Real Women Have Found A Friend In Tim Gunn

The fabulous Tim Gunn is championing for real women everywhere.  He has expressed his views and frustrations on plus size fashion.  He feels that even though the number of plus size retailers have increased in the last decade, but the number is nowhere near where it should be.  In a recent interview with Marie Claire he says, “It’s so difficult. Have you seen most of the plus-size sections out there? It’s horrifying. Whoever’s designing for plus-size doesn’t get it, says the Project Runway mentor. In my travels, I’ve been an advocate for larger women. I’ve been talking to designers, but only a half-dozen make an effort. Most say, “I don’t want a woman who’s a size 10 or 11 wearing my clothes.” Well, shame on you! It’s not realistic. We need to address real women with real needs.”  This has also prompted him to think about designing his own line of clothing for plus size women that will flatter their bodies.  Actually designing the cloths to fit our shapes and not just making the clothes larger.  You know he’ll “make it work”!

The mentor from Project Runway is now on ABC’s The Revolution.  He is part of a five person team that uses their individual expertise to tackle the everyday issues in people’s lives.  Tim is in charge of style and stars along with Ty Pennington (home/lifestyle), Dr. Jennifer Ashton (health), Dr. Tiffanie Davis Henry (mental health), and Harley Pasternak (fitness).  They choose a “hero of the week” to do a weight loss and lifestyle makeover.  Each day of the week covers a 30 day period.  On Friday, they do the big reveal of the five month transformation.

For decades, Tim has made his living and dedicated his life to women’s fashion. He cares about women and is so incredibly funny.  I think we could not have asked for a better person to shine positive light on plus size fashion and women’s issues.
