Renting Your Wardrobe

Your Closet Just Got Bigger

Do you remember the scene in the Sex and The City movie where Jenifer Hudson;s character introduces Carrie to renting designer handbags?  Well, now you can do it with your entire wardrobe.  You can rent everything from dresses and tops to shoes and jewelry.

I recently discovered Gwynnie Bee.  They are an online fashion store that rents plus size clothing.  Their clothes start at size 10 and offer items up to 30/32.  You don’t find many sites that offer such a great range in sizes, especially plus sizes.  Other rental sites like Rent The Runway, Le Tote, and Shecky’s Closet only offer regular sizes.

In the past, I’ve found myself a little bit jealous of all my friends that get to share clothes.  When they get bored with their closet or need something new to wear, they can just borrow something.  I don’t have that luxury since most of my friends are smaller than me.

Here’s how it works.  You subscribe to a monthly rate plan and depending on which rate you choose, determines the number of items you can have “out-at-a-time”.  The base amount is $35/mo and that allows you one item or you can choose the $159/mo package and get ten items.  The great thing about the program is that you don’t have to wait a month to send the item back.  As soon as you’re done with the garment you send it back and they will send out the next item you want.  You don’t even have to clean it before sending it back.  They dry clean it for you.  Super cool!

What I find most appealing about this service is the amount of money I will save on buying special occasion dresses.   Every time I need a dress for a wedding or a party, I go out and spend way too much for a dress that I’ll only wear once.  For those situations alone, I think it’s worth it.  And, if you’re like me and have a little bit of a shopping addiction, then we will really benefit from getting one of the larger plans.  I can easily spend $160 a month on clothes and not have 10 things in the bag.  Plus, many of the things I buy, I wear a couple times, get bored with it, and stop wearing it.   It ends up just hanging in my closet and taking up space.

I hope you found this information helpful.  I always enjoy passing on new and cool things that I find onto others.  If you come across other websites or services like this one, please add it in a comment on this post.
